Emerging Artist Series – Pam Corbett

I was born and raised in Minnesota where I made a living as a CPA and dabbled in various art forms. After a move to Arizona three years ago, I developed the paper painting method I use today. It began as an abstract painting and today has become an edgy, vibrant and very contemporary figurative form of art. For the past two years I’ve been represented by Manos Gallery in Tubac, Arizona. My paintings are now found in addition to the US, Switzerland, and in France.

Medium of art:
My art is mixed media.  I create my work with handmade and decorative papers on canvas and sometimes use acrylic paint for backgrounds.

Emerging Artist Series – Roxanne Skeie Hillard

Always an artist. Since age 4, when her mother realized that Roxanne was not tracing, but drawing, art has played an important role in her life. As an adult artist Roxanne has commented; “Everything about art that challenged me showed me something new about myself and enabled me to help others as well”. Roxanne started painting with water colors direct from the tube and has continued and expanded from that medium. A graduate of North St Paul High School, Minneapolis Vocational Technical School for commercial art and a graduate of Hamline University, Roxanne has won numerous awards and recognition for her work

The opening event is Thursday July 14 th from 6:00 to
8:00 pm at the EXIT Office, One Groveland Terrace, Suite 203 in Minneapolis. Map

Born in Wisconsin and raised in Minnesota. He received a BFA in studio art at Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2003.  Matthew studied ceramic sculpture and pottery in Taiwan at the Tainan National University of the Arts and then earned my MFA at the University of South Carolina. Housing Crawls Across The Floor

This is a market dominated by distressed sellers and bargain hunting investors. Traditional buyers and sellers made an appearance in 2009 and early 2010 to take advantage of the tax credit, but have substantially withdrawn since.

Market stats for February 2011 reflect a focus on low priced foreclosures and don’t compare well to last year’s artificially
stimulated market. The mixture of sales last year included better quality, higher priced homes; price and sale declines for the first
half of this year were expected.

Inventory of homes for sale, measured in actual numbers and months supply, are nowhere near the peaks of 2008, but remain far too high to put upward pressure on prices.  With prices and interest rates so low, we have an historically high Housing Affordability Index. While it is possible that affordability could go higher, it is a certainty that it will go lower. Prices and interest rates this low are not sustainable over the long term.

January Home Price Decline Not a Big Concern

Median home prices declined to $140,000 in January, a 10.4% decrease from January, 2010. A closer look reveals that distressed sales accounted for a much larger market share of the sales this year. Since foreclosures sell at much lower prices, this January’s mixture of sales had lower prices. In fact, traditional (non distressed) sales, actually had a 1.9% increase in median price. So the prices do not represent an apple to apple comparison, and home values appear to be stable.

This phenomenon of median price declines may get worse before it gets better as distressed properties make up an even larger market share of pending sales for January. These sales should close over the next two months, resulting in price declines in February and March.

On the positive side, pending and closed sales were up 3.7% and 10.4%, respectively, in January. This is a pleasant surprise, since sales last year were supported by a tax credit.

Featured Artist: Adam Warner

Adam Warner is an award winning photographer born and bred in Minnesota’s capital city, Saint Paul. The
enthusiasm for photography started in high school when a basic photography class was required. That
35mm requirement quickly became a passionate hobby.

Adam Warner’s vision is to capture memories. Be it a glamorous wedding, a family portrait, a rocking concert
or the latest runway style; “everything looks better frozen in time.”
